Modern inter-tribal relations - M04133 |
Oil & Acrylic on canvas This painting represents the conflict and cooperation amongst modern Maori tribal groups, iwi (tribe), hapu (sub tribe) and whanau (immediate and extended family). Each panel is taken from a different tribal style, some panels fit well with neighboring panels, some not so, and some seem to be in direct conflict. The painting can be thought of as an aerial view of Aotearoa, or individual provinces, cities, suburbs or even family homes. |
